The UfM Ministerial Conference on Research and Innovation (R&I) on 27 June 2022 endorsed eight R&I roadmaps on three priority areas (Health, Renewable Energies and Climate Change). The Ministerial Declaration referred to an implementation plan for the adopted roadmaps. The Plan shed light on the approach and set of pillars/ actions and instruments that are needed to implement the needed R&I actions. The plan was earlier adopted by the UfM R&I platform on 9 June 2022. The implementation plan rests on 4 pillars, namely:
In the context of pillar 1, the EC launched a mapping exercise. A mapping and analysis of a portfolio of 252 projects were conducted during Phase I. The relevance of each project regarding the R&I roadmaps as well as the type of actions covered by the projects (CSA, R&I and/or Capacity building) was assessed. Details on the methodology applied and the findings were presented in the published report.
Phase II focused on assessing scalability potential of R&I projects. A total of 448 results that have some technological or innovation potential were identified in a portfolio of 126 R&I projects funded through H2020, PRIMA and ENI CBC programmes. Very high potential was identified in 47 results, or 11% of all results. The results with very high potential covered mainly advances in the areas of Renewable Energy and Climate Change, 24 and 21, respectively. The analysis per specific focus area/roadmap revealed that projects with very high potential most often have potential to contribute to the modernization of the electric power systems and the production, storage and infrastructure related to green hydrogen, or address approaches to alleviate water scarcity and draught in rural areas.
You have the opportunity to arrange pre-scheduled B2B meetings with the projects/innovators, potential investors as well as mentors. These meetings will provide a platform for in-depth discussions about the showcased innovations and potential collaborations. You will also have the chance to meet with potential investors who are looking to support promising projects and help bring them to market.
Moreover, mentors with expertise in various sectors will be available to provide guidance and support. These mentors can offer valuable insights into scaling up innovations, navigating regulatory landscapes, and identifying market opportunities.
